Creating just the right environment to support your highest and best self can be a fun and enlightening pathway to choose. Here we get to address all of our six senses: taste, touch, smell, sound, sight and insight. The sixth sense or intuitive sense is perhaps the most important of all in which all the senses coalesce and converge. We say, “Something just doesn’t ‘feel’ right” when our intuitive self perceives disharmony in a room or situation. When things are out of balance, we sense the low, misplaced, or static energy that ensues. When life and our surroundings are in balance, it feels like, "Ahhhhhh..." Everything we experience in life has energy, a vibration unique to itself. Let us use this information to create a Home Sanctuary that nurtures, uplifts and heals us, that inspires and motivates, that gives us exactly what we need when we need it. Our mission is to enrich lives and improve a chosen lifestyle by innovatively conjoining the modalities and energies of Aromatherapy, Color Therapy and Feng Shui - along with a healthy dose of common sense and sense of humor! This post is simply to give you an overview or introduction to how each of these elements can enhance and enrich your life and how together can create something extraordinary. AromatherapyAromatherapy is the therapeutic use of essential oils to restore and maintain the natural harmony of the body and mind. Aromatic essences, which represent the spirit of the plant, are volatile, fragrant substances that contain natural potent chemicals. Essential oils are obtained from flowers, roots, leaves, bark, wood, resin and fruit. They effect the body in two key ways: psychologically and physiologically. For creating your Home Sanctuary, we address the psychological effects through the olfactory system (inhalation through diffusing). For all other uses (internal or topical), please check out the information and products in the Aromatherapy category of our store. Custom blended scents based on your desired results, personal preference, the Chinese Five Elements and your personal birth data. This is where creativity and intuition get very chummy with ancient understanding and nature of substance all for your benefit. Nice, huh? Color Psychology and Therapy Color Psychology relates how color can effect our mood, outlook and health due to the natural vibrations of color as well as their cultural and societal connotations. Color Therapy, also known as Chromo Therapy, uses our understanding of the psychology of color directly as therapy for addressing emotional and/or physical imbalance. Color Therapy aims to balance and enhance the body's energy centers or Chakras by using the seven colors of the light spectrum, which can help to stimulate our body's own healing process. Since color is everywhere, we can apply some basics to our everyday lives (from the clothes we wear to the color of our walls and throw pillows) to help uplift and energize, or calm and soothe as needed. Feng Shui "Feng Shui (pronounced "fung shway") examines how the placement of things and objects within it affect the energy flow in your living environment, and how these objects interact with and influence your personal energy flow. Your personal energy flow affects how you think and act, which in turn affects how well you perform and succeed in your personal and professional life. Feng Shui affects you every moment of the day — whether you're aware of it or not." Excerpt from Understanding the Principles of Feng Shui for Dummies Its fun and creative and another way for YOU to express YOU. The Bagua Map is one of the most basic tools acting like an overlay for any floor plan or surface to help create the coveted Flow of Chi and Balance. Covered by the Bagua Map are drill down elements such as: the Five Elements of Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood along with their corresponding Colors and Shapes. Working with various Feng Shui Elements creates an incredibly versatile blueprint for effecting the subtle energies in your life, and can be further customized according to your birth date and those of your family! Whoa! That's a lot of information! That's where we can help. Through Take Wing's information highway and exchange of knowledge, you'll discover as much or as little as you'd like to know. Understanding these vibrational families can help you create balance in your personal and professional life - ancient wisdom for your optimal health and happiness - and another fun stop on this Transformational Pathway to creating a healthier, happier you. Address all the senses One of Take Wing's current offerings is a FREE 45-minute introductory Webinar called Clarity, Care and Consciousness - three signposts you are on the right path. While discussing CARE in the context of Self Care, we talk about how addressing all of your senses as you create Self Care Rituals stimulates and solidifies healthy choices. The reason this is so important is our senses, sight, sound, smell, taste, touch and intuitive, are the pathways for experience in this earthly body. Without all this sensory input, we would have a brain without context of space, time and understanding of how we fit in. It is how memories are formed. And by addressing all of the senses, I like to include the common variety. Maligned by many as less than common these days, I suppose after falling into disuse, people simply gave it away as if they had no more need for such a thing. In light of such, let's not forget the importance of keeping one's sense of humor intact...especially since common sense has been chucked out the proverbial window. I just bet there was a baby and some bathwater involved. All this to say, we are here to have fun! Create! Dream! Grow! Be alive! Thrive! Flourish! So what if you try something and it doesn't work? Say, "Well, that was interesting." And then try something else. If we think of life as Play Time, Dress Up, Coloring, Hop Scotch, it can be seriously fun! Like that. If you are ever interested in learning some new ways to create a space that supports your particular journey of joy, peace, happiness and creativity, and since you're hanging out here on this planet called Earth anyway, give me a jingle. I would love to connect and hear what you are trying to create. Perhaps we can collaborate. So I can appreciate the need to cogitate. Good lord, I"m rapping. Help. Take Wing Takes You There. (unless you'd rather be someplace else.)

BIGGEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK Three skin care experts share their best facial serums for every skin type. What most people know about skin care can be illustrated in these three examples: 1) They read the labels, but have no idea what it means. 2) They ask their friend Jessica what she uses. 3) They read that article on how coconut oil can be used for, well, everything. It can be intimidating. Skin care just happens to be a subject about which I have some knowledge. As a 19-year veteran of the skin care industry, international educator, product specialist, and facial and body treatment trainer, I love sharing information on achieving optimal results from your skin care regimen no matter your age, skin type or skin condition. (Read my full bio here.) There are four basic steps to achieving really nice healthy skin: 1. Cleanse - non-negotiable, just find one appropriate for your skin type and do it. Just do it. There is something for every skin type, every preference here from Milky to Gel to Foaming Cleansers. (For those interested in creating and keeping Your Best Skin, stay tuned for the first installment on Skin Care 101 where I go into details about each kind of skin care product and how you and your skin can actually become besties.) 2. Tone - jury is still out on this one, but I believe, I do, I do, I do believe in toning. It balances pH which helps prevent bacterial growth, creates a penetration leader for treatment products that follow making them more effective, and, not only does it finish off the cleansing process, it can work as a "light cleanse" with a cotton pad when a full cleanse not possible. But that's just me. 3. Treat - Ah, here's the meat of the menu, the cream in your coffee, the cornerstone of what really makes it all happen...the treatment product. Treatment products can range from scrubs to masks to phytoessences to ampoules to SERUMS. Formulated with higher ratios of performance ingredients with "get-er-done" delivery systems, they penetrate deeper, stay longer, and work harder - they are the biggest BANG for your buck in any skin care arsenal. 4. Moisturize - yep, another no-brainer. Once you've gone to all that effort to get your skin in tip top shape with steps 1-3, you'll want to keep it that way...so, seal it in with a moisturizer already. There are specialty moisturizers that are formulated specifically to address particular needs: i.e. Day Creams, Night Creams, Eye Creams, etc. More on that in the aforementioned upcoming Skin Care 101 posts. To help make our point about treatment products, and serums in particular, Take Wing consulted two fellow skin care experts to introduce you to some new, and not-so-new Spa and Clinical Serum offerings. Take a peek! Christine Frantz, Skin Care Expert, Lead Esthetician at Amansala Spa, Scottsdale Resort and Spa, Scottsdale, AZ. Serums are definitely my favorite arsenal in an anti-aging skincare regimen. It was difficult to pick just two, so the ones I will highlight today are “Active Serum” and “Youth Serum” both from the IsClinical line.

Definition/Merriam-Webster: “-used to acknowledge a hit in fencing or the success or appropriateness of an argument, an accusation, or a witty point.” The word touché shouts empowerment, making it the perfect name for a company that combines powerful empowerment tools with powerful skin rejuvenation products. Touché Beauty celebrates a thirty-five year legacy with the development of Artfully Chic, high impact German Formulations that deliver beautiful skin. We believe that by championing self-care and overall good skin health through our spa and medical partners, we in turn inspire inner beauty, personal strength and confidence. Our packaging, our serum formulas are clearly works of art. Our commitment to our clients is to treat each interaction, service and education as an opportunity. The Touché Beauty serums stand ‘on guard’ to pick up where health and wellness leave off (and frankly for some, take the visual edge off of some bad habits.) The basis for looking beautiful is feeling beautiful, so attitude and healthy habits cannot be ignored. However, since only a maximum of 20% of nutrients are available to the organ we call, “skin”…topical supplementation is mandatory. With new technology in delivery systems and non-toxic cosmeceuticals we can ‘teach the skin to function younger’ by targeting specific (in the moment) needs of the skin with high-impact, high quality and highly performing ingredients. Here is a list of the Touche Beauty Serums. Take a gander and see if any of these speak to your skin's needs.
I am posting this recipe, well, because it turned out great! You know, when you are making something up as you go along and hoping for the best...and then, voila! it turns out so good you just have to share? The recipe follows at the end, so you can just scroll down to it if you need to. Here's how it went down. Three days ago my husband announces that he and our neighbor, Ramona, have harvested our rhubarb and "its cut and ready to use." Okay. The only thing I know to make with rhubarb is pie. However, there's not enough of it to make a strictly rhubarb version, so I do what I always do when I need help...ask Google. I stumbled upon Grandma's Strawberry Rhubarb Pie recipe (courtesy of Valarie Enters, Sanford, Florida) and chose it because the pie crust was different than I"m used to making, and I was up for something new and different. AND BECAUSE ITS FINALLY SUMMER! It also turned out great! And because my husband and I do NOT need to eat an entire pie by ourselves, I thought to share it with our neighbor, Ramona, and her family. And then I thought, I also have a giant butternut squash begging to be eaten and I could make something easy for dinner and just have them come over for dinner and dessert. So once the invitation was accepted, I started with my creation. Confetti Quinoa with Roasted Butternut Squash and Walnuts
Serves 8 Ingredients:
Directions: Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Place squash and yellow onion on a shallow non-stick baking sheet. Coat squash and yellow onion with approximately 1-2 TBSP olive oil and sprinkle with Herbs de Provence. Bake for approximately 20-30 minutes, or until a sharp knife inserts easily into the thickest part. Remove and let cool. Cook the quinoa according to package directions: 2 cups quinoa in 4 cups water (or use vegetable broth for added flavor). While quinoa is cooking, saute the red onion, bell peppers and fennel in 1 - 2 TBSP olive oil until crisp tender, 5 - 7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Once squash and onion are done, remove from oven to cool. Reduce temperature to 350 degrees and roast walnuts until fragrant, approximately 3-5 minutes. When squash and onion can be handled, peel squash, and chop both into bite sized pieces. Mix red wine vinegar, lemon juice, 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese in a small mason jar or whisk in a bowl. Add 12 TBSP olive oil and mix by shaking jar or whisking in bowl. Add salt and pepper to taste. Assembly: Grab yourself a very large baking dish. I used 5 1/2 qt. (16" x 11" x 2 3/4"). Add plain quinoa, then sauteed veggies, mix well. Add dressing, mix again. Cover entire surface of quinoa with chopped butternut squash, roasted onion, walnuts and final 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese. Cover with foil and place in 350 degree oven to heat through, approximately 20 minutes. Remove foil. Turn oven to Broil. Allow to start bubbling and browning slightly on top, 3-5 minutes. Serve while its hot! So flippin' good! Dear Winged Ones,

In health and joy, Ciao, Bellas, Colleen I am a spiritual being of light inhabiting an earthly body, and yet more than inhabit, we are bound together in DNA and cells and memory. I am a physical being made of muscle and sinew and bone. My body serves me in this 3-dimentional world so that I may run, skip and jump, that I may lay languid and calm, that I may share my spiritual love in an earthly form and connect with another soul in a meaningful way. I have a mind from which to experience the physical, spiritual and mental realms and find and interpret meaning. It gives me a placeholder for Self, much as my body does on a physical plane. Yet I am not my mind or my body. I am a child of the Creator, an integrated being of body, mind and spirit. And as a child of God, made of God, from God...I am LOVE. I am all things at once and yet never the same twice. I am Yin and Yang and skip and sing along the razor's edge in-between. You ask me who I am? I am the aurora borealis and volcanic rock and lichen and dew...I am YOU. I am Woman who loves flowers and animals and people, most of the time. I longed to find my home in another heart, which I found. And when that journey ended, I longed again. And the light that beckons me now shines not from another, but within. I am home in my own heart. I am my own heart's first lover. |
